The Bulldogs open the season with a shutout 17 to 0 win over the Laurel Spartans. The game tempo was controlled by great defense on both sides of the field. The Bulldog defense was led by the Zach Twin Towers (Captain Zach Bayes and Zach Sava), who have showed tremendous leadership in bringing the New-to-lacrosse defenders into the fold really well. Robbie Edwards, Tino Cione, Terrence Chungong, Kollin Richards, and Jackson Edwards are sure to bring loads of excitement for those who dare enter the Dawg House. As a team, the Dawgs were able to amass 57 ground-balls due to face-offs, take aways, and opponent dropped balls.

Captain Zach Bayes reminded me that the Dawgs did not allow the Spartans to take one shot in the 1st half. Joshua Copeland (Goalie) has the responsibility to fill big shoes and has proven his worthiness by shutting the Spartans down with 4 Great Saves in the 2nd half. The coaches are pleased with this young man’s approach to the game looks forward to seeing his leadership abilities develop. Look forward to hearing about the defensive Midfielders that are currently being prepared for next weeks match-up against Henry Wise High School.

No team can succeed without a strong face-off lineup. Transfer from Emmaus High School (Pennsylvania), Aamir Young, stepped into the face-off position and set the pace for a high scoring game against the Spartans. This hard working young man is always the first to practice, as he trains with the track for 90-minutes before lacrosse practice begins. Kollin Richards also steps onto the field with face-off wins to provide continuity for the Dawgs exciting offensive corp.

Speaking of offense … it is safe to go out on a limb and state that this will be the strongest scoring team of the Bowie’s 6-years as a varsity lacrosse team. The 17 goals came from 8 different student-athletes, including 2 LSMs (Long Stick Midfielders).

This fast moving game was filled with excitement of 52 shots from the Dawgs. The scoring corp was lead by the two sport sensation (basketball and lacrosse) Jacob Morgan with 12-shots, 6-goals, 8-ground balls, and 4-assists. Captain Richie Mercanti’s senior campaign is starting off well with a Hat-Trick (3-goals, 5-ground balls, and an assist. Do not blink, as Richie is certainly the hardest working young man on the field and is sure to put on a show. As expected, Kai Cooper stepping into his first game with a Hat-trick (2-goals and 1-assist). Kai is showing leadership that will be dangerous to the upcoming opponents as he dials in his deadly shot. Be on the lookout for the following athletes who are sure to add to the deadly scoring corp:

– DaMonte Barber: 5-shots, 6-ground balls, 1-goal, 1-assist
– Wilmer Hernandez: 3-shots, 1-goal, 1-assist
– Martin Kasa: 2-shots, 1-goal
